Mark Zuckerberg testifies on the first day of the US goal judgment

In the United States, Mark Zuckerberg’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave testimony on Monday, while his social networking company faces accusations of creating a monopoly.

Zuckerberg’s testimony came immediately after the goal – Facebook controlling company, Instagram and WhatsApp – and the Federal Commercial Commission (FTC) submit their opening arguments at the US District District Court of Columbia in Washington.

The US government accuses the goal of illegally building a “monopoly of social networks” by purchasing WhatsApp and Instagram platforms, which could be competitors.

FTC lawyer Daniel Matheson repeatedly argued during the initial statements that “consumers have no reasonable alternatives.”

Goal lawyers argued that their platforms have a lot of competition and that regulators approved shopping years ago when they were made.

For Zuckerberg, the risks are high.

If the FTC wins the case, the goal could be forced to break up WhatsApp and Instagram, which would hurt the company’s main advertising business and reshape the general social networking ecosystem.

Matheson began to question Zuckerberg about Facebook transformation from a platform designed to facilitate connections between friends and family to one more focused on showing users interesting third party content, including the launch of features such as the news feed and groups.

“It turns out that, over time, the part of ‘interest’ has consolidated more than the ‘friend’ part,” said Zuckerberg. “(Users) are connected to many more groups and other types of things. The part of the ‘friend’ has decreased a lot, but it’s still something we care about.”

Zuckerberg also said the messages are “symbiotic” to the largest offers on Facebook, as they allow users to share the content they meet with friends, after Matheson asked if he considered the messages a “complement” to the platform’s main services.

This background discussion can be fundamental to the definition of “market” by the FTC, in which the goal dominates with its platforms.

Zuckerberg gave his testimony in a monotonous tone, rereading old posts and emails that he had sent about the evolution of the company at the request of Matheson of FTC.
