In the frame Freedom of Opinion on Monday (1), commentator Marcelo Knopfelmacher evaluated the statement by President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) that the Brazilian economy would be recovering well. Bolsonaro addressed the G20 leaders in Rome this Saturday and, after leaving the meeting, spoke with journalists and spoke about the economy and deforestation in the country.
“The Brazilian economy is below expectations, with bad rates, very high inflation, high fuel prices, Copom is intensifying interest rate increases, today we are at 7.75%, which shows that the country is not going as President of the Republic put it, even the forecast of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year is a little less than 5%, but we have to compare with last year’s GDP, so the effective growth will be around 1, 5%. It really is a very slow recovery. The economic issue and Bolsonaro’s speech do not correspond to the facts,” said Knopfelmacher.
“Like Brazil, all countries suffered a lot, inflation is not just a phenomenon here, in other countries like France and Germany there is an inflation that is natural after a process of pandemic and stoppage. But the economic indicators really point out that the recovery is poor in the country.”
Freedom of Opinion had the participation of Thiago Anastácio and Marcelo Knopfelmacher. The frame airs daily on CNN.
