Vitor Soares do Nascimento, 28 years old, who had his skull pierced by a piece of wood, is hospitalized in serious condition in Rio de Janeiro after undergoing surgery, according to information from the City Hall of Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, released to the press on the morning of this Thursday (11).
The procedure was performed last night (10) to remove the object and drain a brain hematoma. Doctors also worked to reduce a depression located in the frontal region of the skull. There were no complications during the operation.
The patient remains hospitalized in the ICU of the Adão Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital (HMAPN). He breathes without the help of machines, responds to stimuli from the medical team and has mobility in his arms and legs.
Despite being serious, the hospital’s medical team considers the clinical condition to be stable.
Vitor was hit while working on a construction site. The piece of wood fell from a roof and caused a 6-centimeter hole in the worker’s head.
He was taken to the Victor de Souza Breves Municipal Hospital, located in Mangaratiba. The patient’s condition was considered critical and he was transferred to HMAPN by helicopter, shortly after 3 pm this Wednesday.
Before undergoing surgery, the patient underwent a cranial tomography scan.
