David Izaque Martins Silva was sentenced to 31 years, six months and 20 days in prison For the murder of the doctor Thallita da Cruz Fernandes, found dead inside a suitcase in her apartment in São José do Rio Preto (SP), in August 2023.
The sentence was issued after a popular jury held at the City Forum. The defendant will serve the penalty in closed regime.
The court considered Silva guilty of qualified homicide with aggravating reasons for clumsy, cruelty, femicide, an appeal that made it difficult to defend the victim and attempt to conceal a corpse. The penalty also includes 15 fine days, according to the decision of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP). The precautionary arrest was maintained.
The São Paulo Public Prosecution Service (MPSP) had denounced the defendant in September 2023.
Case
Thallita was found dead after her mother and a friend strange her disappearance. The friend, who went to the doctor’s apartment, called the police when she got no answers. The police found the young woman’s body, naked and wounded on her face, inside a suitcase in her room. The bathroom was covered in blood.
In testimony, the man would have said he was in his girlfriend’s apartment, but he didn’t remember anything because he had consumed cocaine.
