Man mistakenly arrested for warrant with false signature

A 48-year-old man was mistakenly arrested in the Federal District after going to a police station to register a police report. He was detained because there was an arrest warrant against him, falsely signed by a judge at the Santa Catarina Court of Justice.

According to the police, the man went to the police station on the 11th to report the irregular occupation of land he owned.

During registration, agents checked the system and found the arrest warrant issued against him. The document determined his preventive detention and had the electronic signature of a judge from Blumenau.

The victim was subjected to a custody hearing, where the judge responsible for the case found that the signature on the document was forged. As a result, the man was immediately released.

The National Council of Justice (CNJ) reported having initiated an administrative procedure to investigate what happened. The agency also took emergency measures to reinforce the security of the National Bank of Penal Measures and Prisons.

“As the topic refers to cybersecurity, with possible crimes being investigated, it is not possible to provide further details at this time,” added the CNJ.

The Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT) recognized the illegality of executing the warrant and highlighted that there was no court decision ordering the man’s preventive detention.

The TJDFT also sent a letter to the TJSC requesting an urgent release permit.

The TJSC reported that the document “was signed irregularly” and that the procedural number does not correspond to the standard of justice in Santa Catarina. The court also noted that the judge was off duty and did not recognize the signature on the warrant.
