A man was detained by the Military Police (PM) on Friday (26), after neighbors accused him of racism in the central region of the municipality of Boa Esperança, in Minas Gerais.
A video recorded by the victim shows part of the racist statements. At the beginning of filming, the woman, who is a ceremonialist, asks the 53-year-old man to put the establishment's sign back in place.
The man laughs and throws the plants from the front of the apartment onto the floor. Upon realizing that the woman is recording, the man says: “Ugly, monkey. Are you going to show it to the police?”
Afterwards, the man tries to attack the victim and is unable to do so due to the fence that separates the apartments.
Altered, the neighbor passes a potted plant through the gap in the fence, and throws it in an attempt to hit the woman, and calls her a “monkey” again.
“You are scaring my daughter. My daughter is just a child, okay?” says the victim. In the background you can hear a child crying.
According to the Military Police, the police were called around 4pm by another neighbor, aged 32, who claimed to have also suffered racial insults and offenses against his sexuality through messages.
The arguments began after he asked the man to turn down the volume of the sound and calm the dogs, who were bothering a neighbor.
In conversation with the police, the man claimed that the offenses were “to defend himself”. The suspect was detained and taken to the city police station.
A CNN awaiting a position from the Minas Gerais Civil Police on the case. The detained man was also not located.
