Pennsylvania police arrested a 20 -year -old man accused of planning a mass shot attack at a school later this month, a day after the Anniversary of the Columbine massacre.
Braeden Phillips is accused of conspiring with another individual “to commit murder (s) when planning a coordinated shot at school on April 21, 2025, at the State College High School,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by CNN .
Police say the suspect, a former state-of-the-law, also planned to place bombs inside the school bathrooms and that he and another individual had compiled a “list of targets” of people to be hit.
The attack was planned for 8:40 am (local time), a period of high traffic at school, according to the complaint.
Employees of a community center for youth at State College called the police after hearing the threat of one of the center’s residents, according to a probable statement.
This initial account led to interviews with others who reported to the police that the suspect had discussed the planned attack with them, says the statement.
The suspect initially intended to perform the attack on April 20, the 26th anniversary of the gunfire at Columbine Secondary School, but witnesses indicated that the date was changed because the anniversary fell on a Sunday, according to the statement.
The Columbine massacre in 1999 left 12 students and a teacher killed in one of the most deadly mass shots in US history.
Phillips is accused of conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearms, police said in a statement on Saturday (12).
Individuals should be 21 years old to have firearms in Pennsylvania, and police say the 20 -year -old has been seen with a Glock black pistol on several occasions.
Phillips is detained at the Center County Penitentiary, awaiting the preliminary audience, scheduled for April 16.
His bail request was denied after being considered an “extreme danger to the community,” according to Pennsylvania Court.
The school will have classes normally on Monday (14), said the regional superintendent of State College, Curtis Johnson, noting that “the police have nothing to indicate that there is an active threat against the school.”
State College police refused to comment with the CNN About the possible involvement of other individuals in the threat, citing the investigation ongoing.
Authorities reported that Pennsylvania State Police and US internal security department assisted in the investigation.
