A 48-year-old man was arrested red-handed by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) after selling water unfit for consumption as if it were water from mineral springs. The case took place in the city of São José do Goiabal, Central region of Minas Gerais.
According to the team at the Civil Police Station in São Domingos do Prata, investigations began after complaints that indicated irregularities. In the establishment where the man worked, the police found a large quantity of inputs and gallons ready for sale.
To the police, the man confessed that he used water collected directly from the property's taps to fill the containers, closed the gallons with plastic lids and adhesive seals and then sold the adulterated products, without the necessary authorizations or required sanitary conditions.
30 gallons with a capacity of 20 liters, four packages containing adhesive seals, 452 plastic lids for 20-liter gallon jugs, 512 plastic lids for bottles and a cell phone were seized.
The suspect was charged with the crime of counterfeiting a food product intended for consumption and sent to the prison system.
According to PCMG, investigations continue to identify possible suppliers and buyers of the adulterated goods.
