Malta will be the chairman of the OSCE for 2024

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia and its chairman Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for this year, Boujar Osmani announced today how Malta will be the country that will assume the presidency of this Organization for the coming year.

Osmani said that at the preparatory meeting of the Permanent Council of Ambassadors of the 57 countries participating in the Organization, in Vienna, a consensus was reached that the Malta to be the next country to chair the OSCE for 2024. Initially, only Estonia had applied to take over the OSCE chairmanship for 2024, but Russia vetoed it because the Baltic country blames Moscow for the war in Ukraine.

On November 30 and December 1 the Ministerial Conference of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will be held in Skopje, in view of the completion of the presidency of the Organization by North Macedonia for the current year. According to ERTthis ministerial conference will be attended by the foreign ministers of the 57 countries of the OSCE and will be the largest conference that the country has hosted in its history.

In this Conference will participate, among others, the Secretary of State of the USA, Anthony Blinkenwhile it remains doubtful for the time being whether the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, will finally attend it, despite the fact that the latter expressed the desire to go to Skopje for this purpose and the government of North Macedonia gave the “green light” light” to allow a Russian aircraft to fly over the country’s airspace and land in Skopje, which is going to transport the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. From the Greek side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to participate in the Conference, George Gerapetritis.
