The advanced AR headset Magic Leap 2, which, relatively speaking, marks the formation of a new segment of electronics, first appeared in a limited number of users last year – then the product developers provided a headset focused on the business segment to some companies for closed testing. And today, July 13, the authors of the project officially announced that Magic Leap 2 will go on sale very soon – September 30, 2022. Here it is worth clarifying that although the device was created with an eye on the corporate sector, the novelty will also be available to ordinary users – literally anyone can buy a gadget. True, there is one important point.
The fact is that the Magic Leap 2 AR headset will be available in three versions, but even the most affordable one called Base, which is aimed at developers who just need access to an augmented reality platform, costs a whopping $3,299. In this case, the potential buyer receives a basic set of components in order to consume content in augmented reality, but there are also more expensive packages. For example, the version of Magic Leap 2 Developer Pro, presented for content developers who, in fact, will create software and applications for augmented reality, already costs $4,099. In this case, the user gets the developer tools necessary for testing and creating content.

Rounding out the list of available bundles is the Magic Leap 2 Enterprise edition, which is designed for customers who want to use an AR headset for large projects. This bundle costs $4999, and its main feature is access to quarterly software releases, plus this is the only time the Magic Leap 2 is sold with a two-year warranty – the previous two versions had a one-year warranty. Probably, the manufacturer set such a high price only because it initially assumes extremely low sales – without a high cost, it will be difficult to get a decent profit.
For example, the Magic Leap augmented reality headset sold only 6,000 units within the first six months of its release, even though the price was half that at the time. Accordingly, with a double price and a focus on the corporate market, the second generation will probably sell even worse.
