Anthony Ciccone, Madonna’s older brother, passed away on February 24 at the age of 66. The news was confirmed by the musician joe henryhusband of the sister of the interpreter of Like a Virgin, Melanie Ciccone, through a statement on social networks. However, Anthony’s cause of death was not disclosed.
My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, left this earthly plane last night. I’ve known him since he was 15 years old, in the spring of our lives in Michigan, all those years ago.
Madonna and her brother Anthony Ciccone
Anthony was the first of eight children in the Ciccone family, the numerous children of Madonna Louise, the mother of the famous singer who died in 1963 at the age of 30 from breast cancer, and Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone, the father of “the queen of pop”, who remarried the nanny Joan Gustafson, with whom she had two more children.
Unfortunately, Anthony had been away from his family for years due to a serious history of alcoholism and depression that led him to live on the streets. For seven years, he slept under a bridge in Michigan, United States.
They didn’t have a good relationship
According to TMZ, Madonna and the rest of the family did not have a good relationship with Anthony Ciccone. Years ago, the man told a British tabloid:
I am a zero, a stain of shame in the eyes of my family. If I were to freeze, my family probably wouldn’t find out for six months and they wouldn’t care.
In 2017, after a long period of treatment in a rehabilitation center, Anthony returned to his family, but in the years of addiction he often attacked his siblings, particularly Madonna, of whom he went so far as to declare publicly that “he never they had loved”.
I never loved her, she never loved me. We never love each other. My family turned their back on me. I think I’ve asked this a million times: ‘Why is my sister a billionaire and I am destitute?’
However, the famous singer paid for Anthony’s treatment at the rehabilitation center, which, despite everything, failed to cure his addiction.
It is worth mentioning that so far, Madonna has not commented on the death of her brother and Joe Henry’s publication only received a “Like” from the seven-time Grammy winner.
