Madonna show in Rio will have 65 PM observation towers

The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro announced this Thursday (25) that 65 observation towers will be installed on the sand strip, promenade and roads of Copacabana, in the south zone of Rio, to allow police officers to have a privileged view population during Madonna's concert on May 4th.

The estimated audience is 1.5 million people. The artist's performance in Rio will be the only one in South America with “The Celebration Tour”.

According to the PM, for the first time the mobile Integrated Military Police Command and Control Center (CIC) will be used in the city, which will operate in Praça do Lido, in Copacabana. On site, all images that will be produced, including by body cameras installed on the agents' uniforms, will be centralized.

Madonna's show will feature the use of two drones with facial recognition, two support drones from the Institutional Security Office (GSI) and 12 extra facial recognition cameras positioned on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, a point considered tense in the neighborhood.

In total, the PM's staff will have 3,200 agents, distributed throughout the streets and also at the 18 inspection points with metal detectors that will operate in the neighborhood, including at the Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo metro stations.

“We are making a large investment in technology so that we can handle this large investment. We are setting up a safety belt so that the show is a success”, highlighted Colonel Marco Andrade, communications coordinator for the PM.

In addition to the Military Police, the Civil Police announced that it will work to increase personnel in the city's main police stations.

Madonna's free show is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at 9:45 pm.
