Luxury hotel JW Marriott arrives in São Paulo in place of Four Seasons

The sign that used to stamp Four Seasons in bold letters on top of the 28-story building facing Marginal Pinheiros, now gives way to another name: “JW Marriott “.

Officially inaugurated this Monday (2), the Sao Paulo’s newest luxury hotel occupies the premises of the former venture of the Canadian group, which ceased operating in the city in November 2020 after opening for two years.

Now, the Marriott International group assumes the number 14.401 of Avenida das Nações Unidas, in the south zone, address within the city’s park – 80,000 m² multipurpose complex at Chácara Santo Antônio, with corporate towers, residential buildings and a shopping mall.

Installed in a business center, the JW Marriott, the brand’s first hotel in Sao Paulo – the other Brazilian unit is located in Rio de Janeiro -, is located in the midst of the large glass-fronted commercial buildings typical of the region, which include Avenida das Nações Unidas, Chucri Zaidan and Berrini.

Therefore, the target audience of the new business is divided between senior executives during the week, as directors and presidents, and leisure individuals on weekends, tourists or even residents of the capital of São Paulo.

Rates start at around US$330 (approximately R$1,638 at current rates) and go up to US$5,000 for the Presidential Suite (approximately R$24,820) – prices that may change depending on the date of stay.

the suites

Occupying the first 14 floors of the building – the other 14 are intended for residential apartments managed by another company -, the hotel has a total of 258 rooms which are divided into seven categories.

The smallest of them, the Deluxe , has 38 m², with views of the city or the Pinheiros River. In the most luxurious categories, there are two suites, the JW Marriott is the only one Presidential suite all located on the 14th floor and with the possibility of being reserved for private events.

The “JW” suites have 157 m², with a living room and communication with another bedroom. The presidential suite has 220 m², a minibar and a small kitchen, and has privileged views of the entire waterfront, and can be connected to two additional rooms.

You apartments are still pet friendly and kids friendly as they can be adapted to receive small pets – such as beds and feeders for dogs and cats – and also families with children, who can request a crib, high chair and anti-odour trash.

For the future, the hotel is even studying offering packages day care for pets: while the animals receive treatment outside the hotel, pet parents enjoy the structure of the enterprise.

Interiors and gastronomy

The ground floor is marked by a large lobby with marble floors and, further back, by a red staircase adorned with gold that takes visitors to the events center.

The interior is distinguished by wood in darker tones that blend with the beige of objects such as shelves, waiting chairs, tables and lamps. Artworks by Burle Marx and the painter and designer from São Paulo, Antônio Malta, fill the walls and environments of the project.

Immediately after the reception is the cashew bar , a central figure in the lobby, which serves refreshing drinks with national ingredients, such as tangerine iced tea with orange peel syrup – a non-alcoholic drink, the signature of the place. Caju is open until 1 am and will have live music twice a week, also receiving non-guests.

Ahead is the Grandchild an Italian restaurant run by the chef Icarus Rizzo which also signs the menu of the Terraço Jardins, Renaissance restaurant – Marriott-branded hotel at Alameda Santos, in Jardins.

The large restaurant proposes Italian dishes with a Brazilian touch, with classic recipes of Italian cuisine prepared with national, seasonal and small-scale ingredients. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here.

A “Brazilian-style” stracciatella with basil oil, black olives and Brazil nuts powder, artichoke risotto with pistachios and bread crumbs, and a corn-based dessert (with cake, house ice cream and popcorn with cereal) are some of the highlights. some of the creations served by the chef, from Monday to Sunday.

It is worth mentioning that the name of the bar and restaurant, and basically the entire pre-existing structure of the Four Seasons, were not changed. More security features were implemented and, of course, the rooms and floors got the JW Marriott face.

wellness and leisure

The brand brings to São Paulo the focus on well-being that is characteristic of JW Marriott units around the world. An example of this is on the second floor, entirely dedicated to this philosophy, with spa, gym and swimming pool.

The spa is managed by the hotel itself, which has 10 treatment rooms and uses products from Brazilian companies – which are also on sale in the shop.

There is also a complete gym in addition to a semi-Olympic swimming pool heated between 29 and 32°C that has an area indoor and billboard – the outside has a view of the waterfront and an area with umbrellas. Other experiences such as romantic stays and tours can be negotiated with management.

Resumption of events on the radar

eyeing the corporate profile of customers and also in the resumption of face-to-face events the hotel offers an executive lounge, a space with breakfast, snacks and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages (only after 5 pm) with tables and two rooms for remote work and meetings.

Event rooms are also one of the highlights of the hotel, which, despite having little opening time, is already expecting an event for 250 people next week.

The events have even had a surprising demand in the eyes of the hotel at this beginning, exceeding expectations, as Lidiane Andreatta, sales and marketing director of JW Marriott in Brazil says.

And what will make the JW Marriott last in the city against the site’s past? “The power of the brand is very strong for this hotel to succeed”, bets Lidiane. According to her, the first day the sales channel was opened for the unit, the JW Marriott São Paulo received around 170 reservation requests from Marriott Bonvoy, the group’s global travel and experiences program.
