The entrepreneur Abilio Diniz runs a special week of interviews on the show “Paths with Abilio Diniz “, which airs on CNN Brazil from November 14th to 18th, from 10:40 pm to 11:30 pm.
Roberto Setubal is the first guest of the five-episode program presented by the businessman.
The Co-Chairman of Itaú-Unibanco was emphatic when responding to Abilio Diniz about what to expect from the new government.
“Lula must be aware that he was not elected by the PT. He was elected by a broad front, and he needs to reflect that in his ministries. This composition should reflect the support base he had to get elected. This will greatly facilitate negotiation with Congress and will reduce the tension and polarization that has gripped the country,” he said.
Setubal also states that “Lula has a clear vision that, in order to govern, he will need the support of Congress. And the ministries have to help you capture that support”.
Spending ceiling
On the discussion of the spending ceiling, Setubal said that “social spending is important and has to be a high priority, but real growth will only come if the economic fundamentals are well done”.
“Uncontrolled spending does not lead to sustainable growth”, he added.
Economy and private initiative
Setubal also believes that it is necessary to have better conditions for the private sector to invest.
“We need an economic policy that also looks at the private sector, that provides better conditions for the private sector to invest and make the country grow. We also need responsibility in relation to public debt spending and management, so that it is something sustainable and not out of control”.
about the program
When receiving some of the most important businessmen and personalities in Brazil, Diniz proposes high-level conversations about the perspectives for the economy and the directions for the country in this post-election scenario.
