The parties that support the pre-candidacy of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) asked this Wednesday (15) to the associations that represent TV stations and journalistic companies that the media vehicles organize themselves in “pools”. ” for the debates between the presidential candidates. They also ask for a limit of three dates.
The subtitles claim that the time for carrying out the campaign in 2022 is short, which would make it impossible to hold all ten debates that are currently being proposed by companies and class and religious entities.
“Within the short period of 45 days of the electoral campaign, determined by the legislation in force, such a schedule of debates, concentrated in the capital of São Paulo, is incompatible with the political agenda and the holding of public campaign acts, which require travel around the 27 hours. federation units”.
Therefore, the parties defend the holding of up to three national debates, which would allow the “contribution of broadcasters to the electoral process, preserving the mobility of candidates for democratic and direct dialogue with the population and their regional allies”.
They say they recognize that debates “contribute to inform voters and enrich the electoral process”.
“Faced with this reality, we suggest that newspapers and radio and TV stations, through their national representations, organize themselves in a pool to hold a reasonable number of debates, as happens in other countries with a democratic tradition”, say the parties. .
The suggestion was formalized through a letter signed by the presidents and spokespersons of PCdoB, PSB, PSOL, PT, PV, Rede e Solidariedade. The document was addressed to Flávio Lara Resende, president of the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (Abert), and to Marcelo Antônio Rech, who heads the National Association of Newspapers (ANJ).
THE CNN will hold the first presidential debate of 2022. The confrontation between the candidates will be broadcast live on August 6, on TV and digital platforms. Lula and Bolsonaro, who lead the polls of voting intentions, have not yet confirmed their presence.
