Lukashenko: Belarus military jets modified to carry nuclear weapons

The president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said today that his country’s SU-24 military fighter jets have been modified to carry nuclear weapons and that Minsk will react immediately if the West causes any problems.

Lukashenko said he has agreed to modernize Belarus’ military aircraft with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian news agency Belta reported.

THE Belarus, a staunch ally of Russia, has no nuclear weapons of its own. Lukashenko did not go into detail on how the nukes would be moved from Moscow, which is using Belarusian territory to support what it calls special military operation‘ against Ukrainian.

His remarks appear to have generally referred to a potential threat from the West.

“They must understand that if they provoke an escalation, neither helicopters nor airplanes will save them,” Lukashenko was quoted as saying.
