Lollapalooza: see five points that marked the first day of shows

O first day of the Lollapalooza festival , which took place this Friday (22), at the Autódromo de Interlagos, had several attractions that filled the event, which was rained on many occasions. However, that wasn't enough for the fun and fans' joy diminished, much less the excitement of the artists.

A CNN raised five moments that marked the opening of the event which runs until this Sunday (24) and also features bands and artists such as Kings of Leon, Limp Bizkit, SZA, Titãs Sam Smith and much more.

1 – Opening the day, Rancore is surprised by the public

Rancore was the first act to appear on the Budweiser stage at Lollapalooza this Friday (22). The hardcore band was surprised and thanked the audience who were present despite the show starting at around 12:45 pm on a weekday.

As soon as the show started, a reasonable amount of rain began to fall and bring down the temperatures at the Interlagos Race Track. From then on, the drizzle and cold winds never stopped during the shows.

“Not even in our wildest dreams did we expect this. You made a difference”, declared vocalist Teco Martins.

2 – Marcelo D2 mixing samba and rap

Marcelo D2, who was once described simply as a rapper, presented his Novo Samba Tradicional on the Alternative stage.

The singer, who was accompanied by Um Panhado de Bambas, mixed his usual repertoire with samba classics, such as “Ogum”, immortalized by Zeca Pagodinho, and “Castelo de Um Quarto Só, by Renato da Rocinha.

The show's highlights were a defense of the legalization of cannabis during “Maneiras”, also by Zeca Pagodinho, and a declaration of love to his wife and D2's backing vocalist.

The singer and Luiza Machado, who got married in 2020, performed a duet with “Água de Chuva no Mar”.

3 – Even in the rain, the public squeezes in to see The Offspring

Returning to Brazil two years after singing at Rock In Rio, The Offspring performed for a Budweiser stage full of people. Not even the rain, which started again during the show, scared the audience away.

The band piled on classics like “Come Out And Play” and “(Can't Get My) Head Around You” and thanked the fans who chose to see their show.

“F*** the rain. we don’t care about the rain”, said vocalist Dexter Holland.

4 – Arcade Fire vocalist sings in the audience and presents a gift to a fan

Win Butler, lead singer of Arcade Fire, came down from the stage and “went to the crowd” during two songs. In one of them, he even gave a fan his guitar.

The band also played “Águas de Março” and had Silvanny Sivuca on percussion, who played on several of the band's songs.

The vocalist was very moved by the warmth of the audience and thanked him to the point of saying that the audience and Brazil are so beautiful that it is even “unfair” to the band.

5 – Blink-182 vocalist cries after performance

After a half-hour performance, punk rock band Blink-182 left the Budweiser stage with Tom DeLonge in tears. The band's show was also marked by jokes between the members.

Mark Hoppus, vocalist, asked “congratulations to Tom for not leaving the band”. Tom DeLonge returned to Blink-182 in 2022 after leaving the band in 2015 because he wanted to “focus on other activities outside of the music business.”

At another point in the show, Mark even played with the band Beatles. “Blink-182 is better than the Beatles. Who the hell were the Beatles.”
