Lizzo strikes again: the new album Special comes out on July 15th after a long wait over years. The 3-time Grammy-winning artist anticipated the project with a single About damn time, a love letter not only for your body but for your value. She has also depopulated on TikTok, inspiring a challenge made by half of Hollywood, from the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Shiloh, to Selena Gomez up to Chiara Ferragni.
After the debut in the series Lizzo: Beware of the Big Girrrls (since 13 on Prime Video, in which the pop star looks for the dancers of her tour and which has already earned her an Emmy nomination), the star with 12.7 million followers on Instagram sends a loud and clear message, on body positivity but also on self love. Not by chance launched YITTY, a line of shapewear that praises self-acceptance.
Meanwhile, the pop star has enticed the public on social media by anticipating a show renamed Lizzoversewith which he will present the album next weekend in New York at Cipriani 25 on Broadway (available in livestream on Twitch thanks to Amazon Music).
On About damn time he said: “There is something very magical about the style of the song: disco and funk helped in the 70s and 80s people needed it. And even today something similar happens: we need music to cheer us up and make us feel better, indeed I see a certain familiarity of Juice. I feel I have reached a higher level, I have skyrocketing self-esteem and I want the public to feel good, especially after what has happened in the last period ».
The genesis of the song, he reveals, was nothing short of last minute: «I thought the album was already complete and I played the precious: the producers called me to tell me they had a song that rocks but I replied: “Listen, if it’s a hit then let me hear it on the phone because if not, I won’t even bother”. I had been in the studio for three years, so I didn’t want to continue like this, but they played it for me and it was cool. So I said: “Wait there, I’ll join you in ten minutes to engrave it.”
On the fact of being a social phenomenon, however, he commented: “I am obsessed with TikTok, which is a real problem: people I hang out with tell me to stop scrolling on the screen, but I really feel this genuine joy for the app, it helps me connect with people. If I post something I don’t do it because the record label asks me to do it but because even on Instagram I like to share beautiful photos of my ass and it amuses me. True, I unsubscribed from Twitter but then I came back … at some point I also thought reading hater comments was funny because they are really idiotsnonsense, sometimes gifs of guys with the word “gym” underneath ».
