There’s no denying that nails glazed, i.e. glazed, by Hailey Bieber were the protagonists last year. But after frosted skin, makeup is inspiring the next manicure trend. The lipgloss nails are about to take the manicure world by storm and, like their little sisters glazed, are shiny, glam and delicious. The difference? They skipped the chrome and shimmery top coat for a more minimal effect.
What are lipgloss nails?
Before you think of the sticky fingertips of the lip gloss craze, this trend only mimics the soft, glossy finish of lipgloss when applied to the lips. We start at the base of the bare nail and add a layer of gloss (with a hint of pink tint) to create a fresh and delicious finish.
How are lipgloss nails different from frosted nails?
They follow a similar pattern to nails glazed, but they bring out the natural base of your nails more, so they are generally a little more transparent. Also, even if the glitter they can be present if you want a bit of Juicy Tube-like realism (do you remember the iconic ones by Lancôme?, ed.) should be suspended in the gloss (as in lip gloss) rather than applied on top. Instead, apply the gel top coat to create a shinier, gel-like finish.
How are lipgloss nails created?
Since your natural nails will have a leading role, they must be in order. Make sure they are polished, spotless and perfectly filed. If your nails are a little damaged, you can fake the effect by adding a couple of extra layers of transparent colored top coat to get a semi-opaque pink. You can use your own sheer pink color (we love OPI Bubble Bath And Essie Mademoiselle). If you like, you can add a sheer gloss with sparkles or a little shimmer, then two layers of ultra-shiny gel top coat (try CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat, Essie Gel Couture Clear Nail Polish or Seche Vite Instant Gel Top Coat).
Here are 5 ways to wear lipgloss-effect nails.
