The horizon has been tinted black for many businesses. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a decline in consumption, boosted by the restrictions adopted to prevent the spread of the disease, which is causing these businesses to look into the abyss of an uncertain future. In this context, imaginative initiatives are essential to sustain the commercial fabric, and aid is a float that can prevent small entrepreneurs from having to permanently lower the blind. For this reason, Marbella Town Hall will allocate 700,000 of the 756,000 euros planned to contract the christmas lighting in supporting businesses.
The Marbella councilor, Angeles Muaoz, explained that the goal is to help 2,000 establishments in the city. And how do you plan to do it? Well, in a unique way: through a decoration contest in which, yes, most of the shops will be awarded.
Muaoz explained that the contest will be governed by the subsidies law, for which they will be established three awards with an amount of 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 euros and that the establishments that register will obtain a direct access of 350 euros. So practically everyone who participates will receive the help.
“We thought it was going to be a period of economic recovery, but unfortunately the evolution of the pandemic is not allowing it, so it is necessary to support a sector that is being seriously affected by this crisis,” he said. while adding that “this contest is going to be a economic injection direct to the commercial fabric of the municipality in difficult moments “.
The mayor added that the investment in Christmas lighting will be around 100,000 euros and that the lights will be installed in the two main streets of the municipality, Ricardo Soriano Avenue, in the urban center of Marbella; and in Marquas del Duero street, in San Pedro Alcantara. “Are two symbolic points and with a lot of traffic. We wanted Christmas to be a shock and we opted for lighting as the main attraction, but the curfew means that they no longer carry so much weight. “
In the Consistory they hope that the involvement of the merchants through the contest ‘compensates’ the traditional lighting with an individual decoration, sources consulted pointed out.
On-air programming
Angeles Muaoz warned that the rest of the activities scheduled for Christmas, such as the zambombas, the House of Santa Claus or the Cabalgata de los wise men, will be defined “in the coming weeks based on the measures adopted by the central and regional governments due to the evolution of the pandemic itself.”
The latest adopted by the Pedro Sanchez Executive, with the declaration of a state of alarm and the establishment of a curfew, “lead us to reformulate and accommodate some strategies in this last quarter of the year.” A situation in which the vast majority of city councils in the country are immersed.
Angeles Muaoz recalled that, “from the first moment, we have been at the side of the business fabric promoting measures that allow it to face this crisis”, among which he highlighted the bonuses of the Real Estate Tax (THERE) -for a value of 3.5 million euros- and the Economic Activity Tax (IAE) -ciphered at one million euros-; the elimination of the charge for occupation of the public thoroughfare in the closing period of the establishments; or the implementation of a disinfection protocol.
“It is necessary that we all join forces to overcome this situation and that the administrations make a determined commitment to support an absolutely strategic sector for our economy,” he said.
