The route will be 15 kilometers long, passing through the stations Brasilândia, Vila Cardoso, Itaberaba-Hospital Vila Penteado, João Paulo I, Freguesia do Ó, Santa Marina, Água Branca, Pompeia, Perdizes, Cardoso de Almeida, Pacaembu, Higienópolis-Mackenzie, 14 Bis, Bela Vista and São Joaquim.

Once completed, Line 6-Orange will be operated by the Linha Uni concessionaire for 19 years and will provide integration to CPTM lines 1-Blue and 4-Yellow and 7-Ruby and 8-Diamante. The São Paulo government estimates that, throughout the entire project, more than 9,000 jobs will be created.

The route was also known as the “University Line”, as the branch will serve institutions such as Unip, PUC, Faap, Mackenzie and FMU.

Decree No. 58,025, of May 7, 2012, authorized the expropriation of properties in the regions of Freguesia do Ó, Lapa, Barra Funda, Perdizes, Consolação, Bela Vista and Liberdade for construction. However, well before that, in 2008, the expansion of the line was already announced, which would have the works started only seven years later.

This Tuesday (1st), there was a rupture of the sewage in a stretch of the work on Marginal Tietê, one of the most important roads in the city. In this area, operations with a “tatuzão” – a specific type of machine for tunnel construction – began at the end of 2021, on December 16. There were no injuries.

The first forecast was to integrate the Freguesia do Ó up to the São Joaquim station. However, on December 4, 2008, the expansion to the Vila Nova Cachoeirinha and Brasilândia neighborhoods was announced.

The tender for the execution of the works was won by the Move SP consortium, in 2013, formed by the construction companies Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão and UTC, in addition to the Eco Reality Fund, and the work was expected to start in 2014. Completion would be in 2020.

The total amount of investment planned at that time was R$9.6 billion – R$8.9 billion of which was divided between the consortium and the state government. The other R$ 700 million refers to expropriations.

Only in 2015, however, the then governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, began the excavation works of the ventilation shaft of line 6-Orange (VSE Tietê). Excavations began on April 13 of that year.

The first station began to be built in September 2015. It was Freguesia do Ó.

The works, however, were paralyzed in September 2016, practically a year after it started. The companies that make up the Move SP consortium claimed difficulties in obtaining financing from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).

On July 7, 2020, almost four years later, Spanish construction company Acciona took over the work on line-6 Laranja, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the state government and the Linha Uni concessionaire, of which the group is a member. partner. In October of the same year, the works were resumed.

On December 16, 2021, the government of São Paulo started the operation of the first tunneling machine to excavate the tunnel on line 6-Orange – the so-called “tatuzão”.

On February 1, 2022, a sewage channel was ruptured and flooded the line works on the Marginal Tietê, causing a section of the road to collapse.

The expected delivery date for the works is 2025.
