The Alternative for Germany (AfD) maintains its lead in Brandenburg ahead of the state’s September 22 election. The majority, however, say they want the Social Democrat (SPD) Dietmar Voytke to remain prime minister. According to today’s “PolitBarometer” poll of the second channel of the German public television ZDF, the AfD gathers a percentage of 29% (23.5% in the 2019 elections) and is followed by the SPD, which is at 26.2%, very close to the 26% of the previous election. The battle for third place is between the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and the newly formed “Alliance Zara Wagenknecht” (BSW), with 15% (15.6% in 2019) and 14% respectively. The Greens suffered the biggest losses with 5% from 10.8% in 2019 and the Left, with 3% from 10.7%. In the poll, 72% state that they have already decided what they will vote for, while 56% state that they will vote based on developments in the state and 38% with an eye on the country as a whole.
