Lawyers file habeas corpus to try to prevent Gusttavo Lima’s arrest

A group of four lawyers filed a request for an extension of habeas corpus to prevent the arrest of singer Gusttavo Lima. The request from the group coordinated by lawyer Nelson Wilians was filed at 8:42 pm in the office of judge Eduardo Guilliod Maranhão, the same judge who ordered the release of lawyer and influencer Deolane Bezerra and 16 other prisoners in Operation Integration.

The request obtained by CNN It was made with the intention of extending the decision that had already benefited Darwin Henrique da Silva, owner of the “Caminho da Sorte” platform and his son Darwin Henrique da Silva Filho, owner of the “Esportes da Sorte” betting website.

The lawyers request that the preventive detention be revoked “so that [Gusttavo Lima] continue to fulfill his schedule as a singer, with several contracts signed” and that “no precautionary measure alternative to imprisonment be imposed on him”.

This would include, for example, canceling the suspension of the singer’s passport, who is in Miami, in addition to canceling any request for inclusion on the Interpol wanted list, which could result in eventual extradition from the United States.

The request from the law firm also explores the differences between the Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. This is because, when ordering the singer’s arrest, Judge Andréa Calado da Cruz listened to the police and rejected the arguments of the MP-PE.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office, as rightly considered by Your Excellency, did not even show conviction in offering the complaint against those investigated, including the petitioner”, the lawyers highlighted.

Wanted by CNN both the Public Ministry of Pernambuco and the Civil Police of the state did not want to comment on the details of the investigation, citing confidentiality.
