Latvian taxi driver convicted of spying for Russia

A Latvian man was sentenced today to seven years in prison for spying for Russia, as reported by the Latvian News Agency (LETA). which had been created by pro-Russian activists on the Telegram platform in October 2022. These channels were allegedly used to send requests to Telegram users with the ultimate aim of gathering information about Latvia’s defense capabilities, NATO activities in that country of the Baltic, as well as actions to support Ukraine in the war. The detainee sent photos and videos about actions of the Latvian armed forces, fully aware that they would be passed on to the Russian intelligence services, the case file states.
