Thirteen people have died after a landslide in Phuket, Thailand, according to a statement from the provincial governor on Saturday (24).
According to a statement from Governor Sophon Suwannarat, 19 people were injured and 209 families were affected.
The landslide, triggered by heavy rains overnight from Thursday (22) to Friday (23), occurred near the Big Buddha, a popular tourist attraction in the south of the country.
Nine of the dead were migrant workers from Myanmar and the other two were Thais, the governor said, adding that a Russian couple were also among the victims.
Search and response operations have been completed and will be followed by a major cleanup.
Authorities are also contacting victims’ relatives and embassies.
