King Charles suffering from cancer, “Queen Camilla is his strength”

After cancer diagnosisking Charles III as Buckingham Palace said, «he remains in an absolutely positive mood” And “he can't wait to get back to work at full capacity». Thanks above all to Queen Camillawhich – as revealed to People a Palace source – is the figure who is most supporting King Charles in these difficult days: «She is his strength and always will be. Just like the Prince Philip has always been “the rock” of the late Queen Elizabeth». The source defines Camilla as one “fantastic wife that throughout the treatment period he will support Charles, he will support him, he will help him do his job». And in the meantime he will also find the strength “to carry out the royal duties that he had on his agenda”. It is no coincidence that the queen has just participated, naturally without her husband, at a charity event in Salisbury Cathedral. The first solo royal duty since Buckingham Palace announced last Monday that King Charles had cancer.

Camilla in these days – aside from royal duties – has always remained at Charles' side. The two went together, a day before the King's cancer was announced, to St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. And they were also together at Clarence House, where the sovereign had a flash meeting with his son Harry, landed in London and left for California within twenty-four hours. After that brief reunion, King Charles and his wife, still together, returned to the country estate of Sandringhamwhere the sovereign will continue his treatment.

Due to illness, the king's diary was cleared of almost all commitments. Charles in the next few days he will only carry out the central functions of monarchsuch as the weekly meetings with the prime minister (perhaps remotely, as he did Elizabeth II during the pandemic), the monthly meeting of the Privy Council and the promulgation of laws. The rest of the tasks will be taken care of – from hearings with ambassadors to the appointment of judges – eldest son William. It will be up to him – aided by key figures of the monarchy such as CamillaPrincess Anna and the prince Edward – fill the void that opened in the Crown after the announcement of the cancer diagnosed in 75-year-old Charles III.

The King, however, has no intention of staying behind the scenes for long. The sovereign “is reacting courageously to his cancer diagnosis” and “can't wait to return to work at full capacity”. And behind his strength, as just revealed by Palazzo sources, is his wife Camilla. The woman who, over time, managed to transform herself from a “much hated” lover into an “esteemed” queen consort. And that now, in the most difficult days, those of the illness, she «is the greatest support» of the man who married in Windsor in April 2005.
