Russian President Vladimir Putin had a lengthy telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Kasim-Yomart Tokayev, during which leaders exchanged views on measures being taken to quell unrest in the country, the Kremlin said on Saturday.

According to Reuters, Tokayev told Putin that the situation in Kazakhstan was stabilizing and thanked him for deploying a Russian military force in Kazakhstan to reduce the worst escalation of violence in the Central Asian country since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Kremlin added that Putin had backed Tokayev’s idea of ​​holding a video conference in the coming days with allies of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which brings together six former Soviet republics, to discuss measures to restore order in the Ka.

During the conversation, the Kazakh president also stressed that Kazakhstan continues to receive “terrorist” attacks in some parts, despite measures to suppress the unrest.

Tokayev said Kazakhstan would relentlessly pursue what it called the fight against terrorism, according to a statement on Kazakhstan’s presidential website.
