Vice President Kamala Harris will implore her supporters to accept the results of the presidential election during a concession speech Wednesday afternoon at Howard University, according to aides.
In a speech that aims to address similar themes to those in the final days of her campaign, the Democrat will also ask the country to work together to find areas of “common ground”.
Harris has reached out to President-elect Donald Trump, aides told CNNbut still haven’t been able to talk to him today. “It is her intention to speak to him before the speech at 4pm (local time)”, they reported.
The vice president is working on her concession speech that will take place at the Naval Observatory with her chief speechwriter, Adam Frankel, and other advisers.
The comments are being worked on, according to her office, but they hope she will thank her supporters and offer a targeted message to the younger voters she often sought out during the election campaign.
Kamala’s campaign invited supporters to return to the Yard at Howard University, where the previous night began with partying but gradually turned into disappointment for thousands of followers as election results came in.
Many stayed past midnight but began to leave when it became clear the Democrat would not show up.
