Kamala Harris postpones Florida trip after assassination attempt on Trump

US Vice President Kamala Harris has postponed a trip to Florida following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, a member of the Biden-Harris campaign confirmed.

Harris was reportedly in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday (15) in a conversation with Republican women to discuss Trump’s stance on reproductive rights.

After being warned about Saturday’s attack, the vice president called the shooting a “senseless” act and said she was relieved that Trump was not seriously injured.

“Doug and I are relieved that he was not seriously injured. We are praying for him, his family, and all those who were injured and impacted by this senseless shooting. We are grateful to the United States Secret Service, first responders, and local law enforcement for their immediate response,” Harris wrote in a statement.

The attack

The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon (13) at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Reporters at the scene reported hearing “a series of loud explosions or bangs” before Secret Service agents rushed toward Trump.

The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired several shots from an “elevated position” on the roof of a building outside the rally before being killed by security personnel.

Victims

In addition to Thomas, the shooting left at least one audience member dead and two other attendees seriously injured, according to the Secret Service.

All were adult males, said Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro confirmed that the man killed at Saturday’s rally is firefighter Corey Comperatore, a Pennsylvania resident and father of two daughters.
