United States Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday (17) called the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar a step in progress toward eliminating the threat the group poses to Israel.
The statement came after Israel confirmed that it had killed the group’s leader.
“Justice has been served,” Kamala told reporters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of October 7th and the hostages killed in Gaza.”
“Today I can only hope that the families of Hamas victims feel a certain sense of relief,” Harris added.
The Israeli military and the Shin Bet security service confirmed on Thursday that Sinwar, the architect of the devastating attack on Israel in October last year that triggered the war in Gaza, was killed on Wednesday (16) by Israeli forces who were conducting an operation in southern Gaza.
