It will be resumed this Monday (14/04), from 13h, the hearing of instruction and judgment of the case of transplants of HIV contaminated organ in Rio de Janeiro. The session continues the process that investigates the performance of six defendants linked to the PCS Lab Saleme laboratory, hired by the state government to perform serology examinations in organ donors.
The laboratory is accused of issuing fraudulent reports that failed to identify the presence of the HIV virus in organs of two donors, which resulted in contamination of transplanted patients. The case generated great repercussion and motivated a broad investigation by the health authorities and justice.
At the first hearing held in February, three victims and five prosecution witnesses were heard. In all, at this stage the process will have the testimony of 11 prosecution witnesses, 17 defense and the six defendants.
Those involved respond for very serious bodily injury, criminal association, a falsification of a private document and ideological falsehood. All defendants are free, but perform precautionary measures while the trial is still underway.
