Justice of the DF determines investigation into alleged police violence in demonstration of nurses

The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) determined the opening of an investigation into the riot of protesters with the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) this Monday (3). The act asked for the release of payment for the nursing floor.

In images released by the Union of Nurses of the DF, it is possible to see police using pepper spray against the demonstrators and taking a man from the scene. The act took place at the Esplanada dos Ministérios, at the height of the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, in Brasília.

The PMDF Internal Affairs has ten days to inform about the opening of the procedure. The MPDFT stated that, if excesses in the actions of the officers are confirmed, they must be punished.

According to the Military Police, the arrested man does not belong to the nursing category and is a resident of Rio Grande do Norte.

In a note, the police stated that there was an order from the government of the Federal District not to allow the obstruction of the road that crosses the Esplanada and that, after negotiation with the demonstrators, part of the track was released.

“However, one demonstrator returned to occupy the unobstructed lanes and urged other demonstrators to do the same. He was asked to clear the road, the protester disobeyed the policeman and pushed him,” he said in a note. The man was charged with contempt and disobedience.

In response to contact from CNN , the PMDF stated that it does not comment on judicial decisions. The Union of Nurses of the DF did not respond.
