Junior Lima explains new album and recalls traumas from his personal life

Singer Junior Lima talked about the “solo” album on the podcast “Quem Pode, Pod”, presented by Fernanda Paes Leme and Giovanna Ewbank. The artist was the guest on the show’s premiere episode, last Tuesday (21), and explained the new songs from his project.

Junior started talking about “Passar dos Danos” and took the opportunity to declare himself to his wife, Monica Benini, whom he married in 2014. “We have a very real relationship. We had very difficult moments, which I believe many couples experienced, during the pandemic. It was a very complicated phase for us, but the result is always a lot of love. We see how much we love each other, how much we are a couple that completes each other and everything else.”, said the singer.

“When I met Monica, I was at the height of panic. She held a bar with me, helped me a lot.”, added Junior. Revealing that his album is also inspired by his difficult times, Junior got emotional when talking about “Volta Pra Casa”, which he made thinking about the recent tour “Our History”, by Sandy & Junior.

“The lyrics of this song were what I was living and feeling there at that time. And I get very emotional every time I talk about it, because it’s very new, it’s very fresh, it’s very much in me and it’s very true. We have to go out to understand where our place is, we have to distance ourselves sometimes, we have to lose to find it. I feel like that’s what happened to me,” said the singer.

He also said he was uncomfortable with the competition created by the media between him and his sister: “It was painful to see this kind of thing. Because whenever they wanted to praise one, they needed to criticize the other. People fall into this trap to this day.” Junior also added that they have a “very incredible relationship”.

Xororó’s son recalled moments from his youth, when he had to deal with the duo’s fame. “There was a period when I was more anxious, I started to panic, a lot of things. Depression came, it wasn’t a deep, diagnosed depression. But a deep sadness, I didn’t feel like doing anything. I had some ups and downs.”, said Junior.

“I had moments of great anguish, pain, panic. Panic is the most tense because you lose control. I think this was the most difficult phase for me. These days I’m in control. It was hard at the beginning, when I didn’t even know what was happening to me.”, he added.

The artist stated that the current album is a “healing” for himself. “Now I’m starting to pick some flowers. And it’s very tasty, it’s been very healing for me.”, he stated.

Sandy & Junior Series

At another point in the conversation, Junior was asked by Giovanna Ewbank if he had already hooked up with the other presenter, Fernanda Paes Leme. Although he tried to deflect the matter, he confirmed it. “Oh, never mind,” he began. Fernanda intervened and made it clear what happened to resolve her friend’s curiosity. “Everyone gave kisses in the series… We stayed in the series”, she said.

Giovanna then congratulated her friend for having ended up with the most desired boys at the moment. “Fernanda, you teenager… [Pegou] Junior and Paulinho Vilhena, just the ones everyone wanted”, he joked.

However, the singer made it clear that the relationship had not progressed. “There was no weight [de relacionamento]”, he concluded. Junior and Monica are parents to Otto, aged 6, and Lara, aged 2, while Fernanda Paes Leme is pregnant and engaged to Victor Sampaio.
