Judge orders CONADE to return scholarships to Mexican artistic swimmers

A federal judge ordered Ana Gabriela Guevara, current director of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), to return financial support and scholarships to Mexican artistic swimmers who won three gold medals at the World Cup in Egypt.

According to the lawsuit signed by the medalist Regina Alférez Licea, the swimmers challenged “the omission of carrying out the corresponding paperwork and procedures for the continuation of the scholarship provision for the results obtained in Budapest 2022.”

In her lawsuit, Regina stated that CONADE failed to inform her about the suspension of her scholarship, that is, the economic incentive simply stopped reaching her hands and an explanation was never given as to why.

Agustín Tello Espíndola, Eleventh District Court in Administrative Matters, granted the provisional suspension to the swimmer and the rest of the artistic swimming team so that:

(…) continue to receive government support and incentives in the same way that they had been doing; that is, in a monetary way, as well as access to the facilities that are provided for the development of their activity. This measure will take effect until the final suspension is resolved.

Team of Mexican Olympic swimmers

CONADE must return the scholarship to the artistic swimmers for the results obtained in the world championship in Budapest 2022. The institution received a period of 48 hours to present a report verifying the reactivation of said economic inputs.

With this decision, the swimmers will receive sufficient financial resources to participate in their following competitions: 2023 Central American Games, 2023 Pan American Games, 2023 Fukuoka World Swimming Championships and the preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Despite this triumph, the team of swimmers must appear on June 12 for an initial hearing in which it will be decided whether they are denied or granted the definitive suspension of their sports scholarship.

So far, Ana Gabriel Guevara, head of CONADE, has not responded to the judge’s decision, so it is rumored that she is already preparing a legal team for the next hearing.
