The judge who had issued a temporary mandate to prevent the expulsion of alleged members of a Venezuelan gang, under a 1798 law, said today that the legal representatives of the federal government were “excessive and disrespectful” to the documents they had submitted to him. Regional Judge James Basberg, based in Washington, is also considering whether government officials violated his order. During the hearing, Basasberg told Deputy Attorney General Dru Ensain that he was never remembered by the government’s legal representatives in the way they did it in their documents.
