The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), has kept his distance from the political news. However, according to information from the anchor of the CNN Daniela Lima, the reason for this distance is a strategy already thinking about the toucan’s campaign for the Presidency of the Republic.
According to Daniela Lima, the governor should maintain full concentration on his administration at the head of the state of São Paulo until mid-March. For the beginning of the year, an extensive agenda is planned focused on deliveries and openings of works. The state has about 8,000 works in progress, and Doria intends to prioritize them to create a good image of the legacy of his government.
The areas that the toucan is focusing on with these deliveries are: health, education, environment, public safety, infrastructure and housing.
April 2 marks the last date for the disenfranchisement of presidential candidates. By law, magistrates, state secretaries, ministers and elective office holders must leave their functions so that they can run for other positions. As Doria will not run for re-election, but for the presidency, the toucan will have to leave his position as governor of São Paulo and become incompatible.
From there, João Doria must enter “campaign mode”. The PSDB candidate will start a great pre-campaign trip, in which he will travel through Brazil in three stages.
The toucan must start his journey by landing in Minas Gerais, and from there he must travel to the Northeast region, where he will use the PSDB structure to present himself and advertise his management in São Paulo.
Doria should use vaccination against Covid-19 as the strongest asset. The governor was primarily responsible for the first doses of the immunizer in Brazil, when Coronavac began to be applied on January 17.
In the second stage of his campaign trip, Doria must travel through the North and Midwest regions. In the Midwest, the toucan must meet with important representatives of agribusiness. Conversations with agriculture and important sectors of the Brazilian GDP have already started in São Paulo, where the governor has been holding a series of meetings with the business community. The expectation is to expand these contacts during the campaign.
The third and final stage of the schedule drawn up to tour Brazil will be in the South and Southeast regions, where Doria will end his pre-campaign trip to the Presidency of the Republic. For allies, the toucan has said that he is “obstinate” and that he has “everything organized”.
