João Doria says he “leaves public life”

After giving up his candidacy for the presidency, the former governor of São Paulo João Doria (PSDB) said this Monday (13) that he will leave public life to return to the private sector.

“Starting next month, I will resume my activities in the private sector. I leave public life with a sense of accomplishment. For my mistakes, I apologize. By my successes, I fulfilled my obligation”, wrote Doria on Twitter.

Doria had faced internal resistance within the PSDB and had been pressured to withdraw from the race due to difficulties in taking off in polls and the high rate of rejection among the electorate.

The PSDB should be part of Simone Tebet’s (MDB) campaign for the presidency.

The party’s National Executive confirmed last Thursday (9) its support for Tebet’s (MDB) candidacy. The information was disclosed by the party’s president, Bruno Araújo, in a press conference. The National Executive vote ended with 33 votes in favour, 1 against, by deputy Aécio Neves, and 1 abstention, by Nelson Marchezan Jr, vice president of the party.
