Jo Koy speaks out after criticism of his monologue at the Golden Globes: “I feel bad”

Comedian Jo Koy, who presented the opening monologue at the Golden Globes on Sunday night (7), spoke out after the public didn't like the jokes involving singer Taylor Swift and the film “Barbie” made by him at the ceremony.

In an interview with Good Morning America this Monday (8), Jo Koy said that the opportunity to present the award was special, but that he feels bad after the criticism he received.

“I had fun. You know, it was a moment I will always remember,” he said. “It was a difficult audience. It was a difficult job, I'm not going to lie… I'd be lying if [dissesse] that doesn't hurt. I reached a point where I thought, 'Ah.' Presenting is a difficult task”, he added.

Jo Koy stated that the monologue was not as perfect as he would have liked, as he had little time to prepare it. “Yes, I'm a stand-up comedian, but this hosting position is a different style. I kind of came in and did the writer's job. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was an intensive path. I feel bad, but I can still say that I loved what I did”, he pointed out.

To the vehicle, Jo Koy also made it clear that he felt bad about the joke made with Taylor Swift. “I think the Taylor Swift one was a little boring… It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more about the NFL… I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cuts and how the Golden Globes didn't need to do that. It was yet another blow against the NFL. But it just didn’t sound like that,” said the comedian.

Finally, he highlighted that he does not intend to occupy the position of presenter again.

“It’s a difficult job, I’m not going to lie,” he said. “I love the art of stand-up. It was cool that the opportunity came up for me, but presenting is a beast. That’s about it,” she concluded.

On Sunday night (8), Koy used the films, series and actors competing for the awards as the basis for his jokes and his main targets were the film “Barbie” and the singer Taylor Swift.

During the awards ceremony, the comedian said that “Barbie” “was based on a plastic doll with big breasts”.

“I don't want you to think I'm a creep, but it's kind of weird to be attracted to a plastic doll,” he continued.

In the case of Taylor Swift, who competed in the Best Box Office Hit category with the film “The Eras Tour”, Koy made jokes about her relationship with American football player Travis Kelce, from the Kansas City Chiefs.

“The difference between the NFL and the Golden Globes is that the Golden Globes don't have all the cameras focused on Taylor Swift.”
