JK Rowling, author of “Harry Potter”, once again propagates transphobia on social media

The author of the “Harry Potter” saga, J.K. Rowling , once again sparked outrage on social media by spreading transphobia on the internet. The writer shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that says, loosely translated, “repeat after us: trans women are women”. However, she wrote “no”, being against the text and suggesting that transgender women are not women.

In the comments, several internet users supported the publication, but many were against Rowling’s attitude. One of them commented “fortunately, they don’t need you to agree. Gender is not a club.” Another said “I’m glad I never bought any of the books or movies in your series. And I regret reading and watching it.”

They also commented “says the woman who pretends to be a man to write books”. Another account questioned when the author would support trans women, something she said she would do. “So when exactly are you going to support trans women like you said you would?”

The writer’s transphobia is not new

This is not the first time that JK Rowling has been transphobic and has discriminated against the LGBTQIAPN+ population.

In June 2020, the author, also on the microblogging platform, shared an article that used the term “people who menstruate”. She questioned the expression and joked about the fact that there is already a word to describe this group: women.

Rowling’s statement generated thousands of comments and debates on the social network, with fans lamenting the fact that they liked the Harry Potter saga and that the books had marked their lives.

Among the controversies is also his book “The Heart of Nanking”, released in August 2022 and which portrays the story of Edie Ledwell, the co-creator of a cartoon murdered after being persecuted by internet users who accuse her of being transphobic, racist and ableist.

At the time, publications on X pointed out a parallel between the character in the book and the attacks suffered by the writer herself after publishing transphobic statements in 2021.
