Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man in the film universe, announced during San Diego Comic-Con that he will return to the “Avengers” franchise to play the villain Doctor Doom.
Renner said that, soon after seeing the news about the announcement, he started sending messages in the group with the original “Avengers” actors — Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.
“I was like, ‘What’s going on? Have you been hiding this from us this whole time? This is exciting news. I’m really, really excited about it.’”
