Jannik Sinner flies very high. For six months the athlete who has made an entire nation passionate about tennis, even those who have never picked up a racket, has become accustomed to it well. He reached the final at Nitto ATP Finals 2023, brought it back to Italy after 47 years Davis Cup together with the national team, won the first Slam in Australiasince the beginning of 2024 he has lost only one match against Carlos Alcaraz (in the semifinals at Indian Welles) and he is now number 2 in the world. Things out of this world for an Italian tennis player.
Jannik Sinner is ever closer to the top. There where no Italian has ever dared. There where station Novak Djokovic. And it's not a mirage, our tennis player's radar clearly identifies the highest point (separating him by just over a thousand points from Novak). For Jannik nothing is impossible. After the first part of the season on hard courts, where he is clearly the number 1, after the victory at the Master 1000 in Miami, starts again from the red earth. And here the going gets tough, it is not in fact the surface preferred by our lightning striker with the racket.
Now Jannik flies to Monte Carlo from the States (his home) where the first Master 1000 on clay begins on April 7th and in which all the tennis greats will participate, including Djokovic. Last year he was beaten in the semifinals by Holger Rune. Then there are the Madrid tournament (22 April – 5 May) and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia (6-19 May) where an Italian finalist has not been seen since 1978, when Panatta lost to Borg. Meanwhile, the Roman tournament recorded a +50% increase in ticket sales compared to last year. In short, synnermania goes crazy.
These are two Mr. tournaments in sight of Roland Garros in Paris (May 20 – June 9), the second slam of the year. Will Sinner already be number 1? It doesn't matter when, but that day, making all the necessary spells, will come. Then he will play on the grass Wimbledon (1 – 14 July) and at Olympic Games (from 26 July). Now the real enemy for Sinner to beat is clay.
