Among the donations are 65 water purifiers and 8 tons of food from the MST (Landless Workers Movement) that will be destined for refugees in the eastern region of Ethiopia.

According to a report from the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), Ethiopia, as well as Sudan and South Sudan are in a food security emergency.

The donations were articulated by the first lady and will be sent to refugee camps in the Gambela region, which hosts more than 385 thousand people.

Lula speaks to the African Union

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated, this Saturday (17), that the definitive solution to the war in the Gaza Strip will depend on the creation of a Palestinian state recognized by the UN.

Speaking in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, at the opening of the 37th Summit of the African Union, Lula said that “the moment is propitious to rescue the best humanist traditions of the great leaders of African decolonization”.

“Being a humanist today means condemning the attacks perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians, and demanding the immediate release of all hostages,” declared the president.

“Being a humanist also requires rejecting Israel’s disproportionate response, which killed almost 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza – the vast majority of them women and children – and caused the forced displacement of more than 80% of the population,” he added.

Lula said that the solution to the conflict will only be lasting “if we move quickly towards the creation of a Palestinian State”, which is recognized as a full member of the United Nations (UN).
