The actress Jamie Lee Curtis, 65 backtracked after making harsh criticisms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, known as MCU during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con in the United States, held last week.
The Oscar winner issued a statement on Thursday (1st) on her X account (formerly Twitter), in which she wrote: “My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better.” She added that she “has reached out” to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and that she “will no longer play in that competitive sandbox we call the internet.”
Curtis’s apology was prompted by a now-viral clip from San Diego Comic-Con in which she was asked by MTV what stage the MCU is currently in. Without hesitation, Curtis responded, “Bad,” to audible, shocked laughter from others in the room.
Curtis’s one-word joke is not, in fact, the first time she has commented less than complimentaryly about Marvel. In 2022, while promoting her film “Everything in Everywhere at the Same Time” she wrote on Instagram that her emotionally engaging multiverse film “outshines any Marvel movie they put out” – referring to the film “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” which was released around the same time.
My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content…

She later told People magazine that she “felt like teasing a little bit friendly competition ”, but added that she would be open to appearing in a Marvel film. “I’m a collaborative artist,” she said at the time. “I work with a lot of people on a lot of different things, and if the role was interesting and if I could bring what I do to it, of course I would. [trabalhar com a Marvel].What am I going to do, say no?”
Marvel itself is actually a fan of self-deprecating humor. At one point in the new “Deadpool & Wolverine” Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool turns to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and says, “Welcome to the MCU, you’re coming in at a bit of a bad time.”
