The co -founder and chief security specialist of the CASA platform said that since July 2023, 48,000 attacks with cryptocurrency addresses were found in the Bitcoin blockchain.
Jameson Lopp said that attackers often send small transactions to the addresses of users chosen by victims, imitating the cryptocurns often used by these users.
The increase in the number of attacks on the part of hackers is facilitated by low commissions on the Bitcoin network observed in July, the expert explained. Due to cheap transfers, scammers carry out mass attacks, not carrying special costs. An increase in commissions can reduce the frequency of such manipulations. In general, the problem is solved by warnings in cryptocurrencies, Lopa said. Programs in automatic mode could identify suspicious addresses and warn customers before sending a payment, the expert said.
Earlier, Hacken specialists said that the losses from attacks on crypto projects in January – March of this year amounted to $ 1.98 billion, which is 96% more than in the same first months of last year.
