James Blunt's iconic song “You're Beautiful” was based on a true story.
The 49-year-old singer, topped the charts for almost 20 years telling the story of an unrequited love, and now revealed that the song has roots in a true experience.
“I believe in love at first sight, definitely. I think we've all had that moment when we just come across someone and catch their attention and wonder what could have happened,'' began the musician, in an article written for the British newspaper's “Rush Hour Crush” column. “Subway”.
“And yes, first impressions are everything. I can feel a person's spirit and soul when I meet them. People have energy and you can sense someone who is aggressive, or gentle, or who is kind. Silence often speaks much more than words,” she continued.
Blunt then named the woman who inspired the song.
“It’s a true story. She was an ex. She was with her new boyfriend – I didn't know he existed. But we passed each other, we looked at each other,” he added.
The star, currently married to Sofia Wellesley, reported having lived “a lifetime” in the split second in which he and his ex exchanged glances.
“We lived a lifetime in that moment, but I didn’t do anything about it. I just went home and wrote a song about it and got a house with the money; the whole thing. So I’m happy for them,” she stated.
Upon its release, James' debut album, “Back to Bedlam,” became the best-selling album of the decade.
