The jaguar that killed the 60-year-old homemade Jorge Ávalo in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), follows in rehabilitation at the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center (CRAS), in Campo Grande (MS). The last medical report indicated that the animal is below weight and with committed organs.
After recovery, the animal should return to the forest region where it was captured on Thursday (24), three days after the attack.
The feline must be transferred to a definitive or provisional enclosure – as soon as rehabilitated and tests show that the picture is stable and dehydration reversal.
In a note to CNN the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) said future referrals will be discussed by the State Secretariat of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc) in conjunction with the Institute.
“The animal must be destined to a fauna maintaining institution that will receive it and will be incorporated into the jaguar population management program, coordinated by ICMBio,” says the note.
The fate of the animal should be decided under the program that seeks to conserve the species in all Brazilian biomes.
