A new Karate Kid film was announced by actors Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio this Tuesday (21). They also reported that they are looking for a new teenage star to star in the film production.
The announcement was published in video (see below) on the official Sony Pictures Entertainment profile on YouTube and then on social media.
“We have big news,” Chan begins in the video. And Macchio adds: “We are starting a new Karate Kid together”.
“That’s big news, but we have even bigger news: we are looking for the next [garoto (a) que será] the Karate Kid”, says Chan. “The global search for the star of our new film begins now”, concludes Macchio.
Chan and Macchio have starred in The Karate Kid in different films in the franchise in the past.
The international producer also informs the desired profile for the new teenage star and that it does not require previous acting experience.
“We are looking for an actor of Chinese appearance or Chinese heritage who is between 15 and 17 years old. He has to speak English fluently. Speaking Mandarin is strongly desired. He has to be smart and specialized in martial arts. Gymnastics material, dance and movements are a plus.”
