The center-left Democratic Party, in many cases in collaboration with the Five Stars and the Italian Left, prevailed in yesterday’s second round of Italian municipal elections.
Candidates from the center-left and its allies won in Verona (with footballer Damiano Tomasi), Catanzaro in Calabria, Monza, Piacenza, Parma and Alessandria in northern Italy.
The center-right, which in many cases did not run in these local elections united, prevailed in Lucca, Tuscany and Gorizia in northeastern Italy.
The Secretary of the Democratic Party, Enrico Letta, commenting on the results, underlined:
“In the end, consistency and seriousness always pay off. We win because, in this difficult phase, a sense of responsibility matters more than anything else. We have been ridiculed for creating a wide field of alliances, but this strategy has clearly worked.” .
