Israel’s security minister “prayed” for hostages at Al-Aqsa Mosque – Anger in Jordan and Palestine

Israel’s ultra-nationalist security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, went to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound today to what he said was a “pray” for the hostages in Gaza, an action seen as a fresh challenge to the rules governing one of the most sensitive areas in the Middle East. Israel’s official position accepts decades-old rules barring non-Muslims from praying at the site, Islam’s third-holiest site called the Temple Mount by Jews and Mosque Square by Muslims. Based on the agreed “status quo”, the area is managed by Jordan. Jews are allowed to visit it, but not to pray there.
