Israel should maintain disarmament control in Gaza after war, says Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday (5) that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) should maintain disarmament control in the Gaza Strip after the end of the war, rejecting the idea that a force international could be responsible for security in the territory.

It is not the first time that Netanyahu has called for Israeli military control in post-war Gaza.

“The next day: Gaza must be disarmed. And for Gaza to be disarmed, there is only one force that can guarantee this, and that force is the IDF,” Netanyahu said during a press conference.

“No international force can be responsible for this. We saw what happened to other places where international forces were brought for disarmament purposes”, he highlighted.

In November, Netanyahu highlighted to CNN that Israel’s role in post-war Gaza security would be an “overwhelming and all-encompassing military envelope”, but did not explain what this meant.
